Golden Milk: A Warming, Anti-Inflammatory and Immune Boosting Beverage That Soothes the Soul

Forget the store-bought powder mixes that leave a pasty residue at the bottom of your mug. Homemade Golden Milk is so easy and so worth the (minimal) effort! It gets subtle warmth from ginger and cinnamon, and its glowing golden hue from turmeric.

  • Ginger: aids digest and improves metabolism; helps to reduce chronic inflammation; supports immune health with antibacterial and antiviral properties; supports heart and brain health

  • Cinnamon: anti-inflammatory; improves circulation and blood pressure; antibacterial and antifungal properties; high in antioxidants that help protect cells from damage; helps regulate blood sugar levels

  • Turmeric: potent anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties; enhances cognitive function; supports heart health; aids digestion; has anti-cancer properties; supports the immune system

  • Black Pepper: enhances the bioavailability of turmeric’s health promoting compounds; supports digestion and liver detoxification; antibacterial and antifungal properties help support the immune system

Recipe makes about 4 cups.

Ingredients
2 cups water
2 cups milk of choice
1 1/2 - 2 inches fresh ginger, roughly chopped
1 1/2 - 2 inches fresh turmeric, roughly chopped
1 cinnamon stick
2-3 cracks of freshly ground black pepper
Honey to taste

Directions
1. Combine water, milk, ginger, turmeric, cinnamon and black pepper in a medium-sized sauce pot. Heat over medium-high heat until just starting to bubble. Do not boil.

2. Cover, turn heat off, and let milk mixture steep for 15-20 minutes.

3. Strain golden milk through a fine mesh strainer, or cheese cloth, into a clean jar or container. Sweeten to taste with honey.

4. Enjoy!
